Allow 20 minutes

LEVEL 4

Over 70 young refugees invite you to hear their extraordinary stories – through art, film, poetry, performance, and digital media. Pull up a seat to explore the immense changes they’ve endured, and the hopeful new lives they’re building in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Take a visual journey through photographs and quotes around the walls that show what it means to be a refugee. Find out about New Zealand’s humanitarian role in resettling people here safely.

Walk a timeline of refugees to Aotearoa, from Danes escaping German cultural persecution in 1870 to Syrians fleeing crisis in 2015.

To create the exhibition, Te Papa facilitated a series of workshops around the country to enable young refugees to record the joys and difficulties of their experiences so far.
